About WDTN

Who we are

“Wellingborough & District Talking Newspaper for the Blind and Partially Sighted is a registered local charity (Charity No. 279556), dependant entirely on donations, fund raising and grants. Its aim is to bring news, information and items of interest to visually impaired people in Wellingborough, Rushden, Higham Ferrers and surrounding villages.

What we do

In addition to a weekly 90-minute news tape on cassette tape, two magazine tapes, ‘Sounds Monthly’ and ‘Countywide’ are sent out fortnightly on both cassette tape and CD.

We are currently in the process of updating our service in the light of the demise of the cassette tape. Which will see a memory stick player being used in replace of cassette. We will update this as and when we begin using this media. bookmark our home page and check back often for news.

We have approximately 218 listeners out of which 80 listeners are now receiving their magazine programmes on CD and with the inevitable decline of the Cassette player and tape, provision has already been made for expected increase in our CD listeners.

Listeners receive the service completely free – the Post Office allows free dispatch and return of tapes to talking newspapers all over the U.K.
